The EHRI Czech National Node Welcomes Its First 2026 EHRI-ERIC Conny Kristel Fellow
Leonie is a PhD candidate at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich and a Research associate at the Center for Holocaust Studies at the Institute for Contemporary History in Munich.
Her PhD research topic is: Stolen homes. National Socialist Housing Policy in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.
When the Nazis occupied Bohemia and Moravia in 1939, they did not only persecute Jewish families. They also systematically robbed them of their homes. Approximately 15,000 apartments in Prague, previously inhabited by Jewish families, were robbed and deliberately reassigned to accommodate German beneficiaries: civil servants, employees, and families displaced by bombing.
Leonie’s doctoral research examines this largely neglected dimension of Nazi occupation policy. Her research stay in Prague offers her the opportunity to work with local archives holding key administrative and personal sources essential to her disertation project.
